positive affirmations for promises of God in the bible

*this post is all about affirming the promises of the Lord.

we all have bad days, where we take off our rose-colored glasses and look at the glass sitting in front of us—half empty. but what if those days turn into weeks, months, or years? it’s challenging to pull ourselves out of a cycle of negativity. harmful thinking patterns can spiral out of control and lead us right into a pit of darkness. we can feel stuck and unable to see past what’s right in front of us. but it is possible to overcome a toxic mindset by reminding ourselves of truth. when we allow God’s voice to drown out our negative beliefs, we plant seeds that manifest goodness and life. by aligning our thought life with God’s word, those positive thoughts manifest into actions. our daily choices build habits that become amplified realities. i created a list of affirming statements and notes that are rooted in the promises of God. we change our thoughts and our beliefs by anchoring them to the word of God. we can speak truth over our circumstances and watch as God transforms our minds.

affirmation: a statement (or thought) repeated and believed to manifest what it affirms

these affirming notes and statements are not about manifesting your destiny. they’re not about attracting what you desire when you desire it. are positive affirmations motivating? yes. are they inspiring? of course. do they lead to complete change and fulfillment? no. i don’t know about you, but i don’t want to create my reality. my thoughts and dreams are severely limited to the four dimensions of space-time. there is only so much i can dream up, and i don’t know what i don’t know. attempting to attract success, that i have defined for myself, will not serve my ultimate good. it might produce momentary gratification, but it's temporary. it doesn’t address the root. sometimes it's the things we perceive as positive that can have harmful side effects and hinder our growth process. what we avoid can often serve us best and produce deep-rooted satisfaction. what we're all hoping for will take a lot more to find than reciting daily mantras and positive thinking.

we each have a purpose, and our lives have direction. God never intended us to control our destiny. there is a far more powerful Source working behind the scenes of our lives. he sees the entire picture and has specific purposes for each one of us.

these affirming notes and statements remind us of biblical truths, and these facts change the way we think. they’re about recognizing our need for something far beyond ourselves. they’re about becoming dependent on the One who can provide what we lack. they’re about emptying ourselves so that something more significant, the Truth, can fill us. using biblical affirmations can help transform our thought process. the center of our focus should always be God, not ourselves. he is I Am (exodus 3:14). he is whoever and whatever we need. we can only find lasting success and fulfillment in I Am.

“and those who know your name put their trust in you.” psalm 9:10 esv

he is our Shepherd, Jehovah Raah, when we need direction. he is our Provider, Jehovah Jireh, when we are in need. he is the God of Peace, Jehovah Shalom, during times of uneasiness and uncertainty. he is our Healer, Jehovah Rapha, when we need a remedy to our suffering or broken situation. he is our Banner, Jehovah Nissi, when we need help to navigate through the terrains of life. and, he is El Shaddai, the All-Sufficient One who is the Source of all blessings.

to affirm means to state something confidently as a fact. what better statements to affirm than ones that proclaim who God is in our life! God’s word does not return to him void (isaiah 55:11). he is watching and waiting over his word to perform his promises in our lives (jeremiah 1:12). identifying scriptures and meditating on them daily is good. we are instructed to:

“keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. then you will be prosperous and successful.” joshua 1:8 niv

aligning our beliefs, words, and behavior with scripture produces real deep-rooted change. proverbs 18:21 tells us that the tongue has the power to create life or death. our words can move mountains and soothe souls (matthew 17:20; proverbs 16:24). romans 10:17 states that hearing the word develops faith; it changes our entire belief system. paul calls us to think about things that are honorable and excellent (philippians 4:8); what we think and say to ourselves matters. in john 8:31-32, we find out that accepting the word of God gives way to freedom: freedom from doubt, disappointment, negative patterns, and burdens. how we act directly connects to how we think, and how we think instantly connects to what we believe. it’s not about putting our confidence primarily in ourselves, but in who God is and who we are when we abide in him. it’s about trusting that what he has said is true and will come to pass.

we must affirm things that rest on the promises of God, his will, and his power. meditating on and declaring his word exposes different shades of his character to help us in our time of need. the Lord is constant and faithful through every terrain of our journey. we can speak his Word over our circumstances and watch as he transforms our entire being and creates a path for us to follow.
